Artist's Description

On a trip to Iowa, I was able to visit the Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge in Jasper County. It is a large refuge, but the area you can drive through is limited, so that the Bison have plenty of space without humans. When we saw this herd of female Bison heading towards the drive, we made sure we were there for the crossing. It is one of those moments I will probably remember the rest of my life (similar to when a Bison was following me on a trail at Yellowstone NP) . To be so close to a herd of Bison, wondering the whole time "am I close enough to the car?", leaves you with a fearful wonder. This particular lady Bison, caught my eye. She stopped halfway through the road to turn and stare at us. As if she was the tourist and we were the curiosity.

It is my aim and desire through photography to bring glory to God. The journey that brought me here started with a Canon AE-1, my first "real" camera. Prior to that I was using instamatics from Kodak and any other camera I was able to get my hands on. I had taken the AE-1 from my Dad after seeing some pictures he had taken. My parents encouraged this new hobby by enrolling me, while I was still in High School, in a college photography course. That Christmas they bought me a new Canon AE-1P, this time it was programmable! This led to majoring in photography at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. I started out in Photojournalism, but soon realized I was drawn more to the artistic aspects of photography. After University I was able to...
